The Nancy Waring Award honors the 24-year career of Nancy Waring as Associate Director of Bands at Pioneer High School from 1992 – 2017. For seven years she was also Associate Director of the Pioneer Orchestras, plus developed the content and taught the Music Technology class for fourteen years. She contributed to all of the eight Grammy recognitions bestowed on our Pioneer Music Department. She is proud to have encouraged the involvement of thousands of students of all abilities in our internationally recognized music program.
As a high school student, Ms. Waring received a scholarship to tour Europe for five weeks with Musical Youth International. She would not have been able to participate in this life-changing opportunity without scholarship help. It is her hope that this scholarship pays it forward to a deserving Pioneer Band student who might not have the same chance that she was given. This is a need-based scholarship intended for any current band student in grades 9-11, with preference given to, but not limited to, a student who started in Varsity Band, the band, and students with whom Ms. Waring worked closely. The award is to be used for a recognized musical enrichment opportunity outside of the Pioneer High School Program.
