The Centennial
In the fall of 1913, Ann Arbor High School's football team, the Pioneers, faced off against the Big Reds of Muskegon. Making its appearance on the field that day was the 18-member Ann Arbor High School Band — its first-ever performance.
Now, in our 2013-14 season, we celebrate the centennial of this landmark event. We celebrate the pursuit of excellence that was born that day and that laid the groundwork for today's band programs at Pioneer, Huron and Skyline High Schools.
In a gala concert in Hill Auditorium, the three high school bands will pay tribute to the pioneering efforts of the 1913 Ann Arbor High School band. The concert will feature all three groups, and will premiere pieces commissioned for the occasion.
The AAPS Bands Centennial Celebration is Thursday, May 29, at 8:00 p.m. in Hill Auditorium
