2005 GRAMMY Award Celebration Concert
The Pioneer High School Music Department celebrated its 2005 GRAMMY Gold award in a concert at Hill Auditorium on May 31. The award, presented by 7 UP, was accompanied by a check for $7,000.00 for the Department. Last year's check helped Pioneer purchase a new grand piano for the auditorium.
The Jazz Band began the evening's concert to the delight of the packed house. They appropriately opened with Duke Ellington's classic, "Jump for Joy." Pioneer's A Cappella Choir performed next, followed by the Symphony Band. Under the direction of David A. Leach, the choir joined the band to present "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi."
State Representative Chris Kolb and State Senator Liz Brater were on hand to present a special proclamation from Governor Jennifer Granholm recognizing this high achievement of the Pioneer Music Department. The proclamation was accepted by AAPS Fine Arts Coordinator Lynda Berg. Thanks to her advocacy, the support of the Ann Arbor School Board, and the generosity of the community, many newly purchased instruments were proudly shown off at the concert that night.
The evening was a great success thanks to the leadership of the Pioneer Band Association and the many volunteers who prepared lobby displays, handled VIP seating, donated printing services, and worked behind the scenes to make everything flow smoothly. Special recognition was given in the concert and in the program to the role parents, teachers, mentors, family and friends have in making the Pioneer music program successful!
